Dig For
Dinosaurs in the Badlands of South Dakota!
PaleoAdventures works with private landowners in the Wyoming,
Montana and South Dakota badlands
though fossil leases. Our main interest is in discovering and researching new, well-preserved specimens that can be sold or
donated to museums around the world. We do however occasionally find bone bed deposits which are suitable for tourist activities.
These bone beds typically are ancient river channel deposits where a variety of isolated dinosaur, mammal, reptile, amphibian
and fish fossils can be found. Because the bones are normally not connected to a skeleton they do not have as much scientific
value as partial or complete skeletons. This means that once the scientific data is collected many of these bones can be sold
or collected by enthusiasts.
Walter W. Stein, the owner has been exploring for fossil vertebrates
for over 12 years and has discovered, excavated, or prepared over 25 well-preserved dinosaur skeletons as well as dozens of
other scientifically interesting specimens. Walter is a wonderful teacher and an excellent guide. If you are interested in
going out for the adventure of a lifetime please inquire about our latest digsite adventure packages. Availability
and times may vary and tours are seasonal by nature*.

*It is recommended that tours are scheduled far in advance as space and availability are limited. Exploration and excavation
for dinosaur bones is a safe and fun activity but conditions are rugged and temperatures can be extreme. Participation is
at own risk. It is recommended that only those in good physical condition join each tour and that all participants have health
insurance. Participants are allowed to keep up to $50.00 worth of fossils each day. Additional isolated specimens may be purchased
after evaluation. Scientifically significant fossils are reserved for museums
or universities only, as determined by the guide.
Due to the outdoor nature of this activity the weather may effect our ability to explore on any given day. Light rain
is a blessing in July and August (please bring a rain poncho in this event) and should not impede our exploration. If serious
inclement weather strikes prior to leaving for the field we will make every effort to reschedule the trip. If that is not
possible a full refund will be granted. If serious inclement weather hits while we are already in the field a partial refund
will be considered depending upon the time of day we leave the field.
Best
suited for children over 8 years of age.
IMPORTANT:
These are not "Hack and Slash" Tours, where collectors try to gather and keep more fossils than their neighbors. Our tours
are primarily educational in nature and designed for families interested in learning about paleontology. Guests are only allowed
to keep common fossils of little scientific interest. Commercially significant fossils may be purchased after evaluation,
for an additional fee, as a courtesy and incentive to our landowners.

Hear what some of our guests had to say...
"Dear Mr. and Mrs. Stein......
I'm back home again in Texas and want to take this opportunity to
thank you both for your hospitality while I was in Belle Fourche.
It was a wonderful vacation and I enjoyed myself immensely!
It far exceeded anything I could have imagined and I sincerely appreciate
your kindness, friendliness, professionalism, and patience in explaining and teaching for those two days. As you can see, I already have my little fossil collection neatly organized into separate
containers. I'm tickled to death with the fossils that I got to bring home with me."

"Merry Christmas, Walter,
to you and your family!
We enjoyed our time with you this past summer so much and Tyler is still talking about it.
Bobbie scrap-booked his entire trip and he is so proud and eager to show and share what he found and learned. Thanks again
for your wonderful personality, your patience with Tyler and your sharing with him
an experience he will never forget!"

"I wanted to thank
you for spending so much time with us that day. We really felt like fossil experts after you shared your knowledge with us.
In fact, the other day I was watching the Discovery Channel and there was a show on about Jane the Trex they found in the
Hells Creek formation. And as I was watching I kept saying to myself that I already knew that. You had basically already
shared this information with us. It was so neat. And I also wanted to thank you for spending so much time with my youngest
daughter Madyson. She totally stayed interested in the dig the whole time. And I give you total credit for that. You made
her feel like she was special and important. I plan on referring all of my friends to you when they ask me about unique
places to take a vacation. And my girls and I will absolutely come visit you again for another day of digging for dinosaur
fossils. We had so much fun. Thanks again."
